Berlin Birdbox

Bird Fight!

As mentioned the other day, there seems to be some sort of power struggle over the Berlin birdbox. I’m not sure who actually lives in the hows, most probably the two Parus Major (great tits) but certainly the larger brown bird (if any one know what it is, please let me know) is very interested in the birdbox - be it to live in, or possibly lunch? Who knows.

After yesterday’s debacle, I remembered to turn on the camera last night. This morning there was quite a lot of activity. There appears to be some sort of power struggle going on between the two Parus Major and a bigger bird (yet to be identified)

The video is somewhat confusing. Either the bigger bird is a master of escape, or it managed to fit through the tiny whole!

We’ll have to make do with this great photo of a starling today instead of some more footage of the birdbox. Some idiot (me) unplugged the camera last night and then forgot to plug it back in this morning.
Also, thanks to Flowdeeps, I now know that the small blue birds are “Great Tits”. I suspected they were some sort of tit, but not sure if blue or great. Either way, as promised, the latin name is: Parus major

When the sun comes out, so too it appears, do the birds.

As you can see in this clips, 3 different birds have been recorded. It appears from the clip that some new bird is checking out the box, only to be chased off by 2 smaller birds (no idea what type of birds they are, will try to use the correct latin next time!)

Seeming its so miserable here in Berlin, I thought I’d have an explore around tumblr to find a better picture of birds!, So here we are

Miserable Day in Berlin

As you can see from the video, it’s a truly horrid day here in Berlin. I don’t think we’ll be seeing much today.

I’m still meaning to upload the saved clips of the birds, but life’s pretty busy round here at Jabbakam.

I hadn’t checked the birdbox for almost a week, as I hadn’t actually seen a bird anywhere near the box this whole time. However, I should have been checking our the recordings as there has actually been a flurry of activity.

It now looks like we have 2 birds nesting in the birdbox, which is all quite exciting!

I’ll post some more of last week’s videos throughout the day.

Bird Spotted!

After a weekend of frankly slack bird watching activity (nothing spotted but the odd wisp of smoke from the neighbour’s chimney) at last we have a caught footage of a real live bird.

It looks pretty inquisitive so hopefully it’ll decide to make this Berlin Birdbox its home.

If you have a birdbox, and (like me) have nothing better to do than point a camera at it, why not join the Birdboxes of Jabbakam network? (You’ll have to sign up to Jabbakam, but it’s free if you just want to watch, will cost you a little bit if you have a camera and want to contribute)

Note: Video was taken with an Axis M1011-W with footage being uploaded and embedded using the Jabbakam IP camera network (most people use it for security, I use it for filming birds!)

Is it a bird?

No sooner have I posted about how nothing was happening, then something happens. About 5 seconds in there is a mysterious black shape down the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

Is it s bird? I’ll pretend it is. Not really the type of bird I was after, but it’ll do for today

Nothing what so ever to report in our little birdbox, which is a shame. So, being an incredibly impatient person, this morning I decided to tempt possible visitors with some bread. As you can see from the video, this took an immense amount of concentration to not fall the 5 stories to my death!

Lets hope this brings a few visitors. Stay tuned.
